MORE ABOUT FLYNN GUITARS:

Flynn Guitars didn't start as a music store: it started as an obsession. With my brother Pete on drums and me on guitar, we started with a band and a dream. Pete shared my fascination with different guitars, and before long we couldn't get near a guitar without taking it apart to see what was different from the last one.

Before we knew what hit us, we were off to instrument repair school. In 1981, we both received degrees in instrument repair and building from the Apprentice Shop in Spring Hill, Tennessee. We moved back to greater Chicago, and (without even asking permission) set up shop in the basement of our parents' home in Glenview where we began building and repairing guitars. In 1984, we opened our shop where it is today.

Today, we still play, we still work on 'em, and we still love guitars. As players and luthiers, we make every effort possible to obtain the best instruments our suppliers have to offer, right down to handpicking the individual guitars we're going to stock whenever practical. If we wouldn't want to own it, we sure wouldn't want to sell it!

Now that doesn't mean that everything in the store has a bunch of zeros in the price tag. We do sell some incredible, once-in-a-lifetime guitars. We have a current inventory of Paul Reed Smith "Dragons" that will rival just about any store anywhere. We've got the last of the Arlington Heights American made Hamer Daytonas, Eclipses, Artists, and Cruise Basses, and and we have some incredible Larrivee acoustics...Larrivee is one of the guitar builders who represent the "acoustic guitar renaissance" of the Nineties: building great quality instruments for people who can tell the difference. We also carry Fernandes electrics and Tacoma acoustics, both of which build a great guitar for the money…

Our vintage and used gear gets the same scrutiny: as repairmen and players, we can sort the sweet from the sawdust. Ever been to a "vintage" store with instruments that look like they weren't even wiped off before they were hung up? Ever been to a store where the first comment is "it just needs a setup…"? You won't find it here. Our used and vintage instruments are adjusted, cleaned, serviced and ready to play. (Secretly, we wish we could keep every guitar we ever buy, so we treat them like we're gonna keep them.)

International Customers: Over the years, Flynn Guitars has shipped guitars and amplifiers all over the world. We understand international shipments. We welcome the chance to work with you, whether you're in East Chicago or West L.A. or around the world. Give us a call and see!

More than just a music store, stop in and see some of the guitars see some of our personal collection.. Guitars that are more than instruments; they're pieces of history. Check out the 64' Jazzmaster as featured in the 1996 Vintage Guitar Classics calendar. Oh, and the White '67 Jazz Bass in the same picture? That's ours, too!

Or how about the "All American Boy" Strat…This is the guitar, as (still unverified) legend would have it, is the guitar Bob Dylan used to "go electric"…This '59 slab neck Strat was refinished and converted to a hard-tail while in the possession of guitar slayer Johnny Winter.

Strat.

Winter loaned it to Rick Derringer for the photo shoot of the "All American Boy", …This guitar remained in Johnny Winter's arsenal until one Christmas evening, when Sandy Torano (who had played with Edgar Winter Band, White Trash, and the Average White Band,) came by the house. As story would have it, Torano used the guitar for an impromptu jam session, and Winter, in the spirit of Christmas and friendship, gave Sandy the fabled piece. We tried to buy the guitar from Torano years ago, and he finally agreed that, should he sell, Flynn Guitars would get first shot. In 1993, he stopped by with the guitar, and the rest, as they say, is history.

So whether you're a professional, hobbyist, investor, or history maker, Flynn Guitars should be your first stop. Music stores are not created equal, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Mike Flynn
